Visible Voices

We have something very special to share with you, our very own Arts Together song!

We were approached in the spring by Wiltshire Rural Music who invited Arts Together to take part in their Visible Voices project.

The Arts Together Devizes and Trowbridge groups were lucky enough to be paired with singer/songwriter Daisy Chapman and collaborate on their very own song. Listen below – our members can be heard joining in towards the end.

This is what Wiltshire Rural Music had to say about their inclusive music-based project:

“People across Wiltshire turned to music during the recent crisis to help them through a challenging time for everyone. Music brought joy and laughter and helped maintain a sense of community. It helped fill a void and provided an opportunity for people to celebrate who they are and where they come from. Wiltshire Rural Music wants to capture this creative spirit by providing space and opportunity where people can express themselves through their own words and music. Working with local musicians, we are supporting participating groups and organisations to compose their own song or instrumental pieces of music.”

Daisy Chapman mainly writes songs for herself to perform on the piano and draws her influences from the natural world or stories from history, as well as personal experience.

Daisy began her sessions with our members with a quick intro, and a solo singing performance to familiarise our members with her work.  A discussion was then facilitated to get the members views and ideas about their own group and how they feel about Arts Together. The song came together organically over the two sessions, with everyone deciding on the words and themes together.

There was so much info from your participants so the song really wrote itself! It’s an upbeat, jolly number that encapsulates how everyone feels about coming together once a week to make beautiful art!

The tracks are available to buy for £1 as digital downloads per song or £7 for the whole album but there is also an option ‘pay what you like’. All money raised will go straight back to the community group who wrote it. Visit the bandcamp website to buy the songs.

The Visible Voices songs will be available on CD later in the Autumn.

We cannot thank Wiltshire Rural Music enough for giving our members this fun opportunity.
